Gouveia has eyes set on Challenge Tour’s No. 1 spot

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

With graduation secured up to the European Tour for 2016, a win at the coveted AEGEAN Airlines Challenge Tour event and ten other top 10 results from nineteen tour starts, 2015 can only be described as a massive success for Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia.

Currently positioned at the top of the Road to Oman standings courtesy of a T3 finish at the Foshan Open, Gouveia will be looking for some more success at this week’s final Challenge Tour event, the NBO Golf Classic Grand Final. Having leap frogged over France’s Sebastien Gros in a chase to capture the title, he has his eyes firmly fixed on concluding the 2015 Challenge Tour season in top spot. Going into this week’s season finale, Gouveia seems to be enjoying his on course duel with Gros, “It’s great to have each other, both pushing for low rounds”, he said.

Gouveia and other leading players in the Road to Oman rankings got the chance to compete in the ICAEW Challenge Tour Pro-Am at Jumeirah Golf Estates last week, giving them the perfect opportunity to fine tune their games in a competitive environment.

In seventeen Challenge Tour and two European Tour starts, the Portuguese man has finished in a combined total of -176 and has played himself into all but one weekend of every tournament this year – the only player on tour to hold this impressive feat! This shows the model of consistency that he has been throughout the 2015 season. Sealing a victory is also not a problem as he captured the AEGEAN Airlines Challenge Tour event by 4 strokes having trailed by two going into the final round.

Lets hope that a solid finish at this week’s season finale can put the icing on top of the cake for Gouveia, to finish his 2015 season in top position in the Road to Oman rankings.

All of us here at Hambric Sports Group want to wish Ricardo the very best of luck in this week’s season finisher teeing off on Thursday at Almouj Golf Course – we will be following the action very closely!
