Laurie Canter shun as an amateur player and was victorious at the South African and Spanish Amateur Championships, as well as competing in both the Eisenhower and St. Andrews Trophy in 2010. Laurie also qualified for the Open Championship as an amateur and turned professional the following year. 

 

In 2015, Laurie secured his first European Tour card through Q-School, fulfilling a boyhood dream. Having won First Stage and coming fourth at Second Stage, he went on to take the 20th card at the Final Stage. He ended the year in 193rd position on the 2016 Race to Dubai rankings.

 

At Second Stage of European Tour Q-School for the 2017 season, Laurie came 2nd and cemented his place at Final Stage. Here, Laurie shot rounds of 69, 66, 73 and 73 and once again secured his European Tour card for the 2017 season.

 

Laurie’s 2017 season started off well with a T14 finish at the BMA SA Open, which was followed up by a win at the Dimension Data Pro-Am in the team event and the week after, a T16 finish at the Joburg Open.

 

July 2017 was an exciting time for Laurie as he qualified for the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale through Final Stage of Qualifying. At The Open, Laurie successfully made the cut and finished in a very respectable T37, after rounds of 70, 72, 72 and 68.

 

Laurie competed on the European Tour in 2018, having come through Qualifying School, finishing in tied 12th place. His best finishes of the season came at the Omega European Masters and the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, where he finished tied 16th in both. He also finished tied 8th at the Barclays Kenya Open on the Challenge Tour. 

 

Laurie is competing on both the European and Challenge Tours for the 2019 season, as he looks to rise back up the Official World Golf Rankings.

Laurie is a very accomplished tennis player and competed against the current Wimbledon champion, Andy Murray when he was younger.
