Johnson and Koepka finish tied 2nd at Augusta

Having been tied at the top after the second round of The Masters, Brooks Koepka started the final round three shots behind the leader, Francesco Molinari.

Brooks caught up with the leaders on the back nine having mounted a charge, before Tiger Woods surpassed them all.

Having hit his tee-shot into Rae’s Creek on the par-3 12th, Koepka made one of the most impressive bounce-backs you’ll ever see with an eagle on the par-5 13th.

“Obviously was a little annoyed that I had just made double on 12 and kind of knew that I had to make something happen if I ever wanted to challenge Tiger or whoever was in the lead at that point”, he said. “So took an aggressive line off the tee, hit it down there, hit an 8‑iron in to about 20 feet and was able to sneak that in, which I thought was extremely big at the time.”

Koepka had a chance to put some pressure on Woods if he could birdie the final hole, but his putt from 11 feet rolled past the left edge of the hole and he finished his day having shot a 2-under par 70. This was his best Masters performance to date.

“That was probably the coolest back nine in a major championship I’ve ever been a part of, or just in golf in general,” said Koepka, who had never finished in the top 10 at the Masters.

Dustin Johnson quietly went about his business on Sunday and snuck up to finish tied 2nd also.

Starting the final round five shots off the lead and in a tie for seventh spot, DJ made three straight birdies at the 15th, 16th and 17th which catapulted him into a tie for the lead on 12-under par.

A par on the last saw him shoot a 4 under par 68 and finish just one shot behind Tiger Woods on -13.

It’s his fourth consecutive top-10 finish at Augusta National, but his best to date.

Well done to both Brooks and Dustin on a fantastic tournament at Augusta National!
