JOHNSON, SCHEFFLER & KOEPKA SHINE AT RYDER CUP

Friday, October 1, 2021

It was a week to remember for Hambric Sports’ clients, Dustin Johnson, Scottie Scheffler and Brooks Koepka, as they played large parts in helping Team USA win back the Ryder Cup.

A hugely dominant victory at Whistling Straits saw the United States team reclaim the trophy and break records along the way.

Friday:

In a thrilling Friday morning foursomes match, where Dustin Johnson was paired with rookie Collin Morikawa to play against Europe’s Paul Casey and Viktor Hovland, Team USA came out the victors with a 3&2 win. Putting the finishing touches to the match with a birdie on the par-5 16th, Dustin and Collin made seven birdies and brought home the first point for their country.

In Match 3, Brooks Koepka played with Daniel Berger and brought home the 2nd point of the day for Team USA with a 2&1 victory over Matthew Fitzpatrick and Lee Westwood. The American duo made the most of their opportunities and never looked back when they got to 2up on the 11th

Dustin returned to the fairways for the Friday afternoon fourball matches, where he was paired with Xander Schauffele and they defeated Bernd Wiesberger and Paul Casey 2&1. Back to back birdies frombridget1

DJ gave them a 3 up lead and steady golf was all that was needed to close the match out.

Scottie Scheffler made his Ryder Cup debut with Bryson DeChambeau and earned a half point for his team, against a strong European pairing of Jon Rahm and Tyrell Hatton. It was a back and forth tussle, with plenty of birdies and also the first match of the 43rd Ryder Cup to reach the 18th hole at Whistling Straits.

Saturday:

In the second foursomes match of the day, Dustin and Morikawa held off a late rally from Paul Casey and Tyrrell Hatton to win 2&1 and go unbeaten as a powerful duo in Wisconsin.

Unfortuantely Brooks Koepka and his partner Daniel Berger couldn’t hold off the comeback of Spanish pairing, Sergio Garcia and Jon Rahm and they fell short to a 3&1 loss.

In the Saturday afternoon fourball session, Koepka once again played Rahm and Garcia, this time with Jordan Spieth by his side, but the Spaniards were on fire and won their point for Team Europe 2&1.

Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau went out in Match 3 against Tommy Fleetwood and Viktor Hovland and continued their winning ways, producing a fantastic display of golf to win their match 3&1.

Johnson and Morikawa remained together and created a lead that was never relinquished, to see off the experienced pairing of Ian Poulter and Rory McIlroy, 4&3.

These performances helped Team USA have a 11-5 lead heading into the Sunday singles at Whistling Straits.

Sunday:

The famous Sunday single’s saW Hambric Sports’ 3 clients win 3 points for Team USA.

Scottie Scheffler faced off against the World Number 1, Jon Rahm and dominated his match, winning his first 4 holes, claiming a 4&3 victory.
