Scheffler clinches victory at Bay Hill

Scottie Scheffler held on for a one-stroke victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, to claim his second PGA Tour win in three starts.

Scheffler finished the week on five-under, after a final round of even par (72), in what was a brutally tough day for the field.

The young American entered Sunday two shots back and made his last bogey of the tournament on the par-4 9th. This was erased when he made birdie on the par-5 12th.

From there, he showed his composure when faced with a tricky up and down from the thick rough on the 15th and he went on to successfully roll in his par putt from 20 feet.

On the par-5 16th hole, his drive caught an awkward lie in the long grass, forcing him to lay up short of the water. He hit wedge to 6 feet and held the putt for a miraculous par.

He played his penultimate and final holes beautifully, hitting his tee-shot on the 17th to a safe 45 feet and two-putting for a par 3.

On the final hole of the tournament, he hit his second shot from deep rough left of the 18th fairway, to 70 feet. Standing calmly over his birdie putt, he rolled it up to within inches of the cup, leaving him with a tap-in par and victory at the prestigious Bay Hill.

“It feels great, especially to win on such a difficult golf course and the way it finished”, said Scheffler. “Today and really all this week I did a good job of kind of fighting back, really just kind of battling the golf course the whole time”.

This win has moved Scottie up to Number 1 on the PGA TOUR’s season-long FedExCup standings and 5th on the Official World Golf Rankings.

Congratulations, Scottie!
