SCOTTIE WINS AT THE MEMORIAL IN MUIRFIELD VILLAGE

Monday, June 10, 2024

World number one, Scottie Scheffler, clinched his fifth victory of the season when he won the Memorial Tournament yesterday at Muirfield Village.

It went all the way to the final hole of the tournament, as Scheffler and Morikawa battled down the stretch and it took a five-foot par putt on the last to close out a one-stroke victory.

Scottie entered Sunday with a four stroke lead, but on a tough day of scoring, it allowed the chasing pack to get within two after nine holes.

The lead was cut to one shot after 12 holes, when Morikawa made birdie and Scottie made par.

With just one hole left to play, both Scheffler and Morikawa hit their approach shots over the back of the 18th, with both hitting their chip shots to five feet. Scottie stepped up first and with a 5-foot putt for the title, he took it and sealed victory.

“It’s pretty amazing. I feel like I’ve had some close calls in this tournament,” said Scottie, who remarked on a “pretty surreal moment”, having shaken the hand of tournament host Jack Nicklaus after victory. “This is a tough place to close it out as you saw today, the course is playing so tough: firm and fast.

With this win, Scottie extends his lead atop the Official World Golf Rankings and FedEx Cup Ranking, heading into this week at the US Open Championship.

Congratulations, Scottie – you continue to make us so proud!
