It was an 8-foot putt on the final hole of the tournament that saw Vincent Norrman finish on 22 under par to force a play-off at the Barbasol Championship.
A rookie on the PGA Tour, the young Swede shot a Sunday 66 to win his first PGA Tour title in just his 23rd career start.
There was rain on Sunday in Kentucky, which left the course very gettable and Vincent took full advantage of that, racking up six birdies on his front nine to take the solo lead.
Playing steady golf with pars up until the 15th hole where he made his first birdie on the back 9, Vincent was in charge.
Needing a par in regulation on the last to win, Vincent hit his drive to the left of the fairway and with his approach shot coming up short of the green, he then hit his third to the right of the green, leaving him with a very important 8 footer for bogey which he held.
In the play-off, Vincent went left off the tee and missed the green slightly to the right, but then hit a wonderful chip to 2 feet, giving himself a putt for par and the title.
“I don’t think I can process this for a while. I’m lost for words,” an emotional Norrman said. “It’s amazing.”
With this win, Vincent has earned a winner’s category on the PGA Tour, as well as points on both the FedEx Cup Standings and the DP World Tour’s Race to Dubai rankings, due to the co-sanctioned status.
Congratulations, Vincent. We are so happy for you and know that this is going to be your first PGA Tour title of many!
