YANNIK PAUL CAPTURES FIRST WIN IN MALLORCA

Monday, October 24, 2022

Yannik Paul became the second German winner on the DP World Tour this season, when he clinched the Mallorca Golf Open by one shot in dramatic fashion after a gutsy putt on the final green.

On Saturday, the young German picked up nine shots in his first eleven holes of the day and ended up shooting a flawless 62, which included three eagles. This meant that Yannik was playing in the final group on Sunday, tied for the lead on 16 under par.

He was the man to catch on the final day, before a two-shot swing gave Marcus Armitage a two-shot lead with just three holes left to play.

With Armitage dropping shots on the way in, Yannik saved par at the 17th hole to find himself on 14 under par and in a tie for the lead heading to the 18th and final hole of the tournament.

Hitting his approach shot to 15 feet, lying just in the fringe, Yannik had a birdie putt to win, which he rolled in beautifully, sealing his maiden DP World Tour title in his rookie season.

Yannik made three birdies and four bogeys on a tricky afternoon at Son Muntaner Golf Club and was overjoyed with his victory.

“I’m speechless, honestly. I’m just so happy”, said Yannik. “It was really hard today. My ball-striking was unbelievable all week. I hit it really close at the first couple of holes and couldn’t make any putts, so that was really hard to just stay in the moment. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better ending so I’m over the moon”.

With this win, Yannik has jumped up to 20th on the DP World Tour rankings and looks to finish his season off strong at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

Congratulations, Yannik. We are so proud of you and you deserve every bit of success that comes your way.
