DJ CRUISES TO VICTORY AT THE NORTHERN TRUST

Monday, August 24, 2020

Dustin Johnson had to wait until near darkness, to seal his stunning 11-shot victory at The Northern Trust tournament in Boston and return to the World Number One spot.

Having taken a 5-shot lead into the final day, Dustin was always the man to catch and his lead was quickly extended.

He held an 8-foot putt for eagle at the 2nd, before 4 more birdies at 4, 5, 7 and 8. This added up to a flawless front nine of 30.

Another birdie at 12 was followed by 5 pars, but a severe storm forced play to be halted with DJ just 2 holes from finishing.

After play resumed, Johnson added yet another birdie at his final hole, to close out with a superb 8-under 63, to finish on 30 under for the tournament.

“Obviously the game is very good right now. I played really solid all four days this week,” said Johnson, following on from his rounds of 67-60-64-63.

“All week I felt like I was swinging it the same, I was striking it the same. I controlled my golf ball very well.”

Johnson shot an incredible round of 60 on Friday, having been 11-under through 11 holes and paring his way in. This was then backed up by a moving day 64, which included 6-birdies and an eagle at the last.

With this win, Dustin returns to World Number one and is ranked at the top of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, heading into the BMW Championship this week.

Congratulations on your 22nd PGA Tour victory, Dustin. You continue to make us incredible proud!

Special mention must also go to Scottie Scheffler, who shot a phenomenal round of 59 on Friday, to join the exclusive 59 club on the PGA Tour. He finished his week off in a tie for 4th position on -17.
