John Axelsen is an up and coming Danish golfing star and following on from a 2nd place finish at the Sea Best Invitational, 3rd at the Florida Gators Invitational and 9th at the Southern Highlands Invitational on the 2020 US Collegiate circuit, he made the decision to turn professional off a handicap of +6 in 2020.
John has had numerous victories over the years, including the 2017 & 2018 Danish Amateur International Championships, as well as winning the World Amateur Team Championships with Denmark in 2018. He also represented Team Europe at the Ryder Cup, the Continent of Europe at the Jacques Léglise Trophy and Team Denmark at the Youth Olympics.
Having attended the University of Florida for three years, John picked up multiple individual honours, such as being selected as a 2020 & 2018 All-SEC First Team member, a 2020 NCAA Division 1 PING All-American member, a 2020 & 2019 PING All-Regional team member and was also selected on the 2020 Haskins Award Final Watch List.
He finished his collegiate career with the second-best career scoring average in program history and appeared in all seven tournaments for the Gators, taking the top spot in the lineup six time.
Since turning professional, the young Dane has been progressing up the rankings, having won his maiden professional title at the Destination Fyn Pro-Am on the Ecco tour, just months after joining the paid ranks. John then went on to finish 6th at the Barseback Resort Masters, tied 8th at the Bravo Tours Open and tied 9th at the SM Match-Play.
Following on from these performances, John was awarded the Ecco Tour’s Rookie of the Year accolade.
On the Challenge Tour, John’s best finish came at the Andalucia Challenge de Cadiz, where he finished tied 9th. This led to him finishing 74th on the Challenge Tour’s Road to Mallorca rankings.
John used to play Badminton to a high level, before turning his full focus to golf!
