Sweden’s Oliver Gillberg is a proven winner and made the decision to turn professional in September 2018.
Oliver captured his biggest amateur title at the 2018 South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship. Following on from this, he was selected to represent Sweden at the European Team Championships and the World Amateur Team Championships, which both assisted with his rise up the World Amateur Rankings to 14th position.
Although Oliver was still an amateur, he competed at professional tournaments to build up his experience at the next level.
Competing at the Kårsta Open on the Oakley Professional Tour, Oliver shot rounds of 66-62 to win the tournament by 6 shots. He also played at the 2018 Lumine Hills Open on the SGT Winter Series, finishing in a tie for 7th place. He finished tied 6th at the same event in 2017.
Oliver also competed at the 2018 Pärnu Bay Golf Links Challenge where he finished in a tie for 11th position and at the Willis Towers Watson Masters where he ended his week in a tie for 18th.
Following on from his victory at the South African Stroke Play Championship earlier this year, Oliver was selected to represent the Continent of Europe at the 2018 Bonallack Trophy in Qatar, which they unfortunately went on to lose to Asia-Pacific.
Oliver was also selected to represent Sweden at the European Team Championships, where they finished in 7th position.
He competed on the Nordic Golf League for the 2019 season and finished the year ranked 12th on the Road to Europe Rankings.
He picked up two victories at the SM Match and Tanum Strand Fjallbacka Open, which helped him rise up the order of merit.
He will compete on both the Nordic Golf League and Challenge Tour for the 2020 season.
If Oliver didn’t play golf, he would have liked to have been a professional water skier or surfer.
